Short Course at Coonskin Named One of Eight Noteworthy Municipal Golf
Rebirths of 2023 in Links Magazine

Charleston, WV – The Kanawha County Commission and Kanawha County Parks and Recreation Commission were delighted to read a recent article in Links Magazine by author, Erik Matuszewski, naming the Short Course at Coonskin Park one of eight noteworthy golf courses of 2023.

The author describes the 9-hole par-3 course as embracing the “Golden Age of architecture,” and we would have to agree. Kanawha County Parks and Recreation Director, Jeff Hutchinson, is pleased that the County’s newest golf course is getting the recognition it deserves.

“Short Course at Coonskin Park has been a great addition to our Parks system,” Hutchinson said. “I look forward to watching the public play golf on this course for years to come.”

Kanawha County Commission President, Kent Carper, said, “After the 2016 floods ruined Coonskin’s golf course, we knew we had to find a way to bring golf back to Coonskin. We were able to do that with the Short Course, and it’s been wonderful to bring that back for golfers.”

Commissioner Ben Salango added, “It’s great that Links Magazine recognized our golf course. It continues to prove how important sports and recreational activities are to not only our local community, but the sports community at large.”

Commissioner Lance Wheeler said, “I think it is wonderful to see our hard work and revitalization of Coonskin golf course recognized on a national level. This proves that Kanawha County is being put on the map on a national level.”
