Kanawha Day Report Center (KDRC)
Established on July 1, 2005, the Kanawha Day Report Center (KDRC) provides a drug-free alternative sentencing program designed to help clients rebuild their lives while under structured supervision. The program equips participants with essential skills to successfully reintegrate into society.
Commitment to Accountability
KDRC upholds a zero-tolerance policy for violations of the law or program regulations, ensuring a structured and disciplined approach to rehabilitation.
Judicial Partnerships
- KDRC serves as a vital resource for:
- Kanawha County Circuit Court
- Kanawha County Magistrate Court
- Family Court
- West Virginia Department of Corrections’ Parole Division
Program Impact
- $3.2 million saved in jail costs in 2016
- 183 clients supervised per month on average (2016)
- 106 clients successfully graduated in 2016
- Nearly 1,000 graduates since 2005, with a recidivism rate of less than 13%
Community Contributions
While enrolled in the program, participants give back to Kanawha County through community service initiatives, including:
- Roadside cleanup projects
- Groundskeeping at county facilities
- Volunteering at the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association
- Assisting at local senior centers
Rehabilitation & Educational Programs
KDRC offers a comprehensive range of life skills and recovery programs, including:
- Workplace Readiness & Life Skills: Preparing for the Workplace, Mentoring
- Substance Abuse Recovery: A.A. (Alcoholics Anonymous), N.A. (Narcotics Anonymous), Wisdom of the 12-Step Program, Relapse Prevention, Substance Abuse Groups
- Behavioral & Cognitive Therapy: Anger Management, Cognitive Skills, R.E.B.T. (Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy), Issues in Recovery
- Parenting & Family Support: Becoming a 24/7 Dad
- Court-Mandated Programs: B.I.P.P. (Batterer’s Intervention Prevention Program), taught weekly by YWCA instructors
Education & Community Partnerships
- GED Preparation: Offered in collaboration with Garnet Career Center, with classes held at KDRC.
- K.I.S.R.A. (Kanawha Institute for Social Research & Action): Provides courses on workplace readiness, fatherhood support, and mentoring.
- Domestic Violence Education: A new 40-hour Domestic Violence 101 class is being introduced.
- Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.) Meetings: Open to the public Monday through Friday at noon.
