When choosing a costume, stay away from long capes. If using a mask, make sure eye holes are large enough to avoid tunnel vision. Maybe use something reflective if possible.
Have kids use flashlights or glow-sticks when Trick or Treating.
Try to use battery operated candles or glow-sticks instead of open flame candles
If you use real candles in jack-o-lanterns, keep theme away from anything that will burn, also out of the way of doorsteps, walkways, or anywhere else trick or treaters may venture.
Remind children to stop, drop, and roll, if their costume catches fire (have them practice this).
Never leave a child alone with a burning candle
Matches and lighters out of reach
Blow out ALL candles when you leave a room or go to bed and make sure they are COMPLETELY out.
Keep at least a 12 inch clearance area around candles
Use solid candle holders that fit the candles and that will not tip over easy
Place candles on a sturdy surface
NEVER USE CANDLES IF MEDICAL OXYGEN IS USED IN THE HOME
