If a shelter in place order is given in your area, here are some reminders of things to do.
Bring in children and pets.
Close and lock all exterior doors and windows. Turn off all fans, air conditioners, and forced air heaters. If you have a fireplace, close the damper.
Get your Basic Disaster Supply Kit and proceed to an interior room with as few windows as possible. Preferably above ground. Some chemicals are heavier than air and may settle into a room below ground.
Seal all windows and doors with 2-4 mil thick plastic sheeting and duct tape. Consider doing this before a disaster and label the plastic sheets for the windows that they are to cover. After ‘All Clear’ is given, open doors and windows to flush out any contaminant that may have entered.
Listen to your local television or radio stations to keep updated on the emergent situation.
CLOSE the business. Ask customers, clients, and visitors to stay, providing for their safety. Have everyone in the building contact their emergency contact to let them know they are ok and where they are at. Remember, cellular systems may be over taxed.
As above close and lock all windows and doors. Turn off all fans, air conditioners, and forced air heaters
Move everyone into an interior room (ground floor or above) with as few windows as possible. You may have to use more than one depending on the amount of people.
Gather essential disaster supplies, nonperishable food, bottles water, battery operated radios, first aid kits, flashlights, batteries, duct tape, plastic sheeting or garbage bags.
Seal windows and doors as listed above. Once they are sealed DO NOT UNSEAL until ‘All Clear’ has been given. After ‘All Clear’ has sounded, open doors and windows to flush out any contaminant that may have entered.
Listen to local news media telecasts to received further updates on the emergent situation.
